Planning workshop on organising conference on decent work status in RMG sector

Bangladesh Institute of Labour Studies-BILS, with the support of Mondiaal FNV under its BILS-Social Dialogue, Gender Equality and Decent Work Project organised a planning workshop for organising conference on Decent Work Status in RMG sector on September 29, 2019 at Engineering Institution Bangladesh. Main objective of the planning workshop was to take opinion and recommendations from the leaders for preparing the annual report of decent work at RMG sector in 2019 and to organise a successful conference which will be held on December 2019.

BILS Vice Chairman Alhaj Shukkur Mahamud chaired the workshop while BILS Advisory Council Member Naimul Ahsan Jewel and Executive Council Member Kazi Rahima Akter Sathi moderated the workshop and BILS Director and Project Coordinator Nazma Yesmin conducted the workshop. In the workshop, a keynote paper was presented regarding the current situation of decent work in RMG sector.

Proper implementation of overtime, wage, working hour, weekly leave, workplace safety, creating pressure on the owners for arranging training in their factories in order to inform them about Labour Law, taking strong initiative in case of ending sexual harassment at workplace, ensuring occupational health and safety of the workers, ensuring their rights to form Trade Union in the factory were the main discussed issues in the workshop.

BILS Advisory Council member Abdul Matin Master,Bangladesh Jatiya Sramik Jote President Abdul Kader Hawlader, BILS Secretary Md. Alaouddin Miah, Bangladesh Garments, Textile and Leather Workers Federation President Kutub Uddin Ahmed, Bagladesh Poshak Shilpo Sramik Federation President Md. Touhidur Rahman, Jatiya Sramik Jote Joint General Secretary Sardar Khorshed and a total number of 40 participants (Male= 17 and Female=23) including Leaders of SKOP affiliated and BILS associated national Trade Union Federations in RMG sector and IndustriAll affiliated Federations were present in the workshop.
